江端：「ふーむ、『英語』のテーマは、あいかわらず強いですねえ」
Ebata:"The theme of "English" has been strong without change."
Mさん：「読者の『英語』への興味は本当に高いです」
Ms.M:"I think that the interest of readers about "English" is really high"
江端：「『石油枯渇』と『京都議定書』は、本当に命を削って執筆した、という感じでしたので、ツイッターやFacebookの数が少なくて、愕然とした記憶があります」
Ebata:"According to "Oil depletion" and "Kyoto Protocol", I was shocked at the few number of Twitter or Facebook, because I had written the column for my life"
Mさん：「そうですねえ。確か、PVとSNSでのリツイート数は、以前は関連があったようなのですが、最近は、関連性がよく分からなくなってきています」
Ms.M:"Well, there were some relationships between PVs and SNS comments previously, however, it becomes more ambiguous."

数字シリーズは、炎上騒ぎが起きにくい、というのも事実です。
It it true that the series of "Numbers" hardly burst burst into flame.
数字に逆らう手段は、数字しかないからだと思います。
I think "numbers" is the only way against "numbers".
実際、今迄、私のコラムに数字で反証してきた人は、一人もいません。
In fact, there is no person who has been disproved by the numbers against my columns.
数字は、理念や理想や正義など、そういう観念的なものを、軽くスルーしてしまいます。
"Numbers" can easily ignore any conceptual issues, like philosophy, ideals and justice.
しかし、それは逆に言えば、
Contrary speaking,
―― 数字は、読者を不愉快な気持にさせる
"Numbers can annoy readers easily"
とも言える訳です。

数字の中でも、特に「統計」は、データの改竄などという違法行為をしなくても、データの見せ方如何で、人々を騙すことがとても簡単です。
Especially "statistics" in numbers, is very easy to fool the people, by way to show the data. without the illegal act of such data tampering.
ですから、統計屋(今で言う、(ビッグ)データアナリスト)は、今も昔も、権力に重宝されてきました。
So, statisticians (say now, (big) data analyst) have been found useful in power both now and the past.
