I know a person who buys enormous books, and "just" accumulate them on the desk or shelf.

I also must read a variety of books for my work; nevertheless I will be a bankrupt if I buy all books I want to read.
In my case, a public library helps me a lot, thouth there are two problems.
(1) I can never write down in the book.

Last night, I destroyed my HDD by my mistake for the first time in years.
I wrote a SD image of Raspberry PI to the HDD. It was an elementary mistake, and I let me down.
The only consolation is that it was my private HDD.

Backups of HDD are going to be difficult because of the enormous disk size.
In many case, HDDs are crashed, all data become missing.
To make a safe and secure backup, I should buy two same capacity of HDD at the same time, and try the backup temporary.
This means, twice costs are needed.
And, "mass storage" can store much data, so there is no need to regularly organize data, and the maintenance period will be long.
I think it is inevitable and imperative not to grasp the contents of the HDD, not to manage them and to become chaos states
