先日、娘に連れ出されて、大学のオープンキャンパスに付き合わされた話をしました。

The other day, I told you that my daughter brought me to some colleges in order to join the open campus.

その続編です。

This is another talk.

引き上げる途中のキャンパスの通路に、セミが死んでいました。

When we went out from the campus, we met a corpse of cicada on walkway.

長女は飛び上がって、そのセミから逃げるようにして、怒ったように言いました。

My daughter jumped and run away from the corpse, and told me with anger.

娘：「なんで、そんなところで死んでいるかなぁ!」

Daughter: "Why is it dead on walkway?"

私：「なんでって・・・、そりゃ、夏だし」

Ebata: "Why? Of course, it is summer now"

娘：「通路で死ぬことないじゃんか」

D:"Why on walkway?"

私：「そんなこと言うなよ。セミは、7日間しか生きられないんだから」

E:"Don't say that. They can live just for seven days."

娘：「7日でも7年でも関係ないよ。『自分のことは自分で』が原則でしょうが!」

D:"I don't care whether 7 days or 7 years. "Self-determinism" is principle isn't it?"

私：「セミも通路で死にたいと思って、死ぬ訳じゃないだろう」

E:"I think that cicadas cannot choose where they dead"

娘：「だいたいね。セミなんかいなくたっていいじゃんか。なんで、セミっているの？」

D:"To begin with, what is the significance of existence of cicada? Is it useful for our life?"

私：「賭けてもいいけど、セミも『なんで人間っているの？』と思っていると思うぞ」

E:"I can bet that cicadas think same"

娘：「だから!？」

D:"So what?"

私：「だから、まあ、お互い様ってことで」

E:"So, it is mutual."

娘：「片づけてよ! 自分の死骸くらい、自分で」

D:"Put your dead body away by yourself"

私：「死んだセミが、自分の死骸を自分で移動させるのか。そりゃ、シュールな絵だな」

E:"Moving my body by myself after dead...It is a surreal picture"

しかし、この話、娘に「理」があると思いました。

However, according to this story, I think that my daughter has "a law of nature".

『自分のことは自分で』が原則です。

"Self-determinism" is principle.

だから

So, I think that

―― 鉄道で人身事故を自分で起こした人は、自分で、自分の死骸を片づけて、運行回復に協力すべきだ ――

The person who caused an accident resulting in death by railway, should put their corpses by their selves, and cooperate with service recovery.

と思うのですよ。
